Wigan Warriors are a rugby league team, formed in 1872 and based in Wigan, Greater Manchester. The team currently plays in the Super League and play their home games at the 25,100 capacity JJB Stadium, Robin Park Complex, Newtown, Wigan.
Cherry and White Jersey
Wigan play their home games in strip of cherry and white hooped shirts, with white or red shorts. The away strip is black with red sides and bottoms to the sleeves on the shirt. The shirt has been pulled on by many greats in the game, many who came up through the academy ranks. A few of the names are: Denis Betts, Billy Boston, Shaun Edwards, Frano Botica, Andrew Farrell, Kevin Iro, Andy Gregory, Joe Lydon and Sean Long.
Wigan are the most successful rugby league club in English history, though they have lost this tag since the advent of the Super League. They have however won the Championship a record 18 times and the Challenge Cup a record 17 times, in addition they took the World Challenge trophy 3 times in the late eighties and early nineties. Couple this with winning the Rugby Union Middlesex Sevens title in 1996 and the World Rugby League 7's in 1991-92.
