It may have been a dead rubber, but both teams started the game with great intent. So for the first 20 minutes the Maroons pressured the Blues line but it held firm. Then on 20 minutes quick ball wide allowed Darius Boyd in for the first score to Queensland 0-4. Jonathon Thurston added the 2 with a beautiful kick 0-6. 28 minutes and the Maroons unlocked the Blues defence again with a simple dive over the line from Nate Myles, Thurston converting making the score 0-12. At last on 35
minutes the Blues got on the score sheet thanks to Paul Gallen and with Michael Gordon converting closed the gap to 6-12. But right on the end of the half Darren Lockyer slotted a 49 metre field goal to give us the half-time score of 6-13.

The second period and the Blues looked a more settled side stringing some phases together, so all it needed was for them to score first and they did just that on 47 minutes as Kurt Gidley dotted down and Gordon converting it was 12-13. The Blues then took the lead with a cheeky tap through and touch down by Greg Bird, again Gordon added the 2 to give us a score of 18-13 and still 10 minutes to go. 74 minutes and the Maroons came straight back with a well worked try to Billy Slater converted by Thurston and a score of 18-19. Then to rub it in an interception gifted play back to the Maroons and with the Blues light on cover Willie Tonga went in out wide on 79 minutes 18-23 with the kick to come from Israel Folau which missed so Queensland had the clean sweep for the first time since 1995 in front of 61,259 supporters, who had seen a much better match
leading to the final score of:

NSW Blues 18-23 Queensland Maroons.
