Rob Parker, Salford’s new prop-forward signing from Warrington, has been appointed as the Reds’ captain. Parker, replaces Malcolm Alker, who was stripped of the role after a breach of club rules during a January training camp in the United States.

Reds coach Shaun McRae said: (quote)Rob is an outstanding on and off-the-field leader and he’s experienced, having captained England in the European Nations.(end quote)

Parker said: (quote)I’m excited about taking on the captaincy role. I feel part of a club that is very much more a family than a group of rugby players.(end quote)

Salford take on fellow Super League newcomers Celtic Crusaders at The Willows in their opening match, on Saturday.
