England Rugby league who are nicknamed the Three Lions played their first international match against a combined Scots and Welsh team on the 5th April 1904 in Wigan, losing 3-9. The team historically use the Wembley Stadium as their home venue, even though the majority of fans come from the Midlands and North of England.

White Shirts

As with the majority of other sports, England wear a white shirt with red, white shorts and red socks for their home games. England and the World Cup

England were represented in the World Cups in 1975, 1995 and 2000 and the World Sevens in 2002 and 2003. Their best results in the World Cup were as runners up in 1975 and 1995. Most matches involving England were not given test status as English players represented Great Britain. However from 2008 each of the home nations will have their own teams and GB will only be formed occasionally in the same way as the Rugby Union Lions touring team. England had automatic qualification to the 2008 World Cup.
