Away in Albi, France and in front of a near full house Wales had one of the biggest wins in their history as they turned over the favourites France to win the European Cup.

France had the better of the first period and went into half time with a narrow 4-0 lead thanks to a try from Quentin Nauroy on 17 minutes, as Munoz missed the conversion attempt.

The second period and the exciting tight affair continued Wales coming out the stronger and scoring on 46 and 60 minutes through Rhys Williams and Gareth Thomas. With Lloyd White managing to convert the first 4-6, then missing the second 4-10.
67 minutes and France scored, this time Nicolas Munoz converted and we were all squared up. Then in an amazing sequence first Wales missed a drop goal by Lloyd White as it was ruled out for obstruction. From the resulting penalty, France went up-field and got what looked to be the winning one-pointer themselves through Tony Gigot. However in a final twist and with four minutes to go, Wales were awarded a penalty 40 metres out. Lloyd White ignored the cat-calls around the stadium and kicked the winning goal. Giving us the final score of:

The only thing that was flowing in Paris for the French was the beer as England produced a power play game to brush Les Blues aside.

The first period on a beautiful evening in Paris saw England run in 8 tries through Ryan Atkins, 7 mins, Danny McGuire 10 mins, Richie Myler on 14 and 17 mins, Peter Fox 22 mins, Ryan Hall 26 mins and Shaun Briscoe on 36 and 37 mins to give us the half time score of 0-44.

The second period and France tightened things up or maybe England took the foot off the pedal, but it was France who scored first on 43 mins through Jean-Phillipe Baile, England then got back on track and extended out through Roby on 47 mins, then myler got his hat trick on 61 mins. England completed their scoring through tries by Sam Burgess on 65 mins and Peter Fox on 70. France salvaged some pride by scoring the last points through Cyrille Gossard on 75 minutes though Myler
could have had the last say had he held a pass behind him with the line begging. That would have given him the points record, though no one can complain at his haul of 30 points. So the end of a good evening for England saw a Final score of:

France or Les Tricolores will come to the 2008 World Cup in hope rather than anticipation of progressing into the quarter-finals, though their best previous results have been as runners-up in 1954 and 1968. They do have a prolific try-scoring fullback lining up for them who hails from Newcastle in New South Wales. Jarred Taylor qualified for the French World Cup team under the residential rule. He was the top try-scorer in the French premiership this year.

France look to compete up front thanks to captain Jerome Guisset and Adel Fellous. But the forward most likely to attract attention is the second rower Jamal Fakir, the only concern is he is returning after a knee re-construction.

One star of the future to look out for is; French schoolboy international centre Teddy Sadaoui who has already attracted the eyes of talent scouts in Australia and England.
